Goldmark was on Academy Awards!
If you watched the 74th
Annual Academy Awards on March 24, you may have caught a
short film at the beginning, directed by documentary
filmmaker Errol Morris, in which various people from all
walks of life are interviewed about their favorite movies
and why. And in addition to such celebrities (both famous
and infamous) as Laura Bush, Donald Trump, Wavy Gravy,
Willie Brown, Lou Reed, Walter Cronkite and Gorbachev (I
couldn't spell his first name to save my life), you just
might have seen several unknown people, including yours
truly, the creator of such Dr. Demento Funny Five songs
as "Kill the Backstreet Boys," "Penguin on
the Telly" and "The Sorcerer's Stone,"
Tony Goldmark! That's right - towards the end, I appeared
for about 0.93 seconds saying "Holy Grail" in a
very quick montage of people stating the titles of their
favorite movies. Naturally I am VERY excited by this.
- Penguin
on Basement Tapes!
That's right, you read right: Dr.
Demento himself has inculded "Penguin on the
Telly," the Monty Python parody tribute conceived by
"Blasted Bill" Putt and written and performed
by me, on Dr. Demento's Basement Tapes #10, a
compilation CD of funny music heard on his
nationally-syndicated radio show, available NOW not in
stores but through The Demento Society!
"Penguin" is lucky track 13 of 23 hot hits from
the show, including music from such demented comedians as
The Four Postmen, Lorne Elliot, Eric Schwartz, Dan Hart,
Mike Toomey, Rob Paravonian, Les Barker and of course a
rare early demo from "Weird Al" Yankovic! (for
a complete track listing scroll down to the bottom of this page). So, join
the Demento Society and get the Basement Tapes CD...but
watch out for those penguins.
- "The
Sorcerer's Stone" on Dr. Demento's Funny Five
THRICE!
This weekend (specifically, that of
June 15-16), "The Sorcerer's Stone," the first
song to be recorded for my eventual second full-length
comedy music CD, is #5 on the Funny Five on the
nationally-syndicated Dr. Demento Show! A parody of
"(The Cover of) the Rolling Stone," written by
Shel Silverstein and performed by Dr. Hook and the
Medicine Show, the song is about the first book/movie of
the Harry Potter franchise. This is the third time this
song has been on the Funny Five, and the NINTH time any
of my songs has been on the countdown, after "Kill
the Backstreet Boys," (which was on five times) and
"Penguin on the Telly." Please: if you like the
song, keep on requesting it! And yes, I do
have copies of it available on a very limited edition CD
single! Order a copy by sending an email to kkg@well.com.

in the Looney Bin!
Since July 2001, I have had a
weekly Internet radio show on Dementia
Radio called "The Looney Bin,"
a semi-eclectic mix of comedy music, sketches and
stand-up by the likes of "Weird Al" Yankovic,
The Arrogant Worms, The Great Luke Ski, They Might Be
Giants, The Vestibules, Big Daddy and, oh, seven others.
For more details, see the
official Looney Bin page.

on Charity Compilation
"Rhetorical
Questions," my 5 1/2 minute ode to folk rock from my
album "Masterpiece Weirder," is on a new
charity comedy CD called Laughter Is A Powerful Weapon
(Funny Musicians For A Serious Cause), produced by Grant
Baciocco of Throwing Toasters and Chris Mezzolesta of
Power Salad. It also contains comedy music material by
The Four Postmen, The Great Luke Ski, Barnes & Barnes
(!) and many, many more, with liner notes by Dr. Demento.
The CD will be available only through donations to the
Twin Towers Orphan Fund, to ensure that 100% of the
proceeds will go towards those who need it. The
unfortunate delays in the manufacturing process have been
resolved, and the CD is finally available to order at www.funnymusicians.com. United we stand, we are
the world, we are the chil-oh, sorry.
- Tonies
and Oddities
"Oldies and Oddities," a
radio show on the San Diego-based station KKSM (1230 AM,
92.3 FM), has been playing my work a lot recently. Two of
my songs showed up on their countdown of the twenty-five
most requested songs of 2001; "Rhetorical
Questions," my ode to folk rock, was their second
most requested song (It got beat out only by the Langley
Schools Music Project's awesome version of "A Space
Oddity") while "Tech Support," my ode to
computer problems and Papa Roach, was #11. And to pay
them back for all the exposure, I did a phone interview
with host Zeb Nevarro on April 20, and hopefully someday
my mother and I will actually make the trek to be live
guests on this excellent program. For more details on how
to tune in, you can e-mail them and get on
their e-mail list.

Results Are In: The Tony Goldmark Top Six!
On
Thursday, June 6, The Dementia Revolution (hosted by the
great Luke Ski) held a poll among its listeners (most of
whom are avid Tony Goldmark fans) with the following
query: What are your five favorite Tony Goldmark songs?
Well, after the results were tabulated six songs stood
head and shoulders above the others. They were:
#6: The Ballad of Carson
Daly
#5: Kill the Backstreet Boys
#4: Penguin on the Telly
#3: Disney World
#2: The Sign of a True D-Fan (featuring the great Luke Ski)
#1: The Sorcerer's Stone
Numbers 6-2 are
available on Tony's full-length album Masterpiece Weirder. Thanks to all who voted!
